Aboveground Pool Landscaping with Hardy Garden Shrubs
Get ideas for aboveground pool landscaping including planting garden shrubs, evergreens, perennials and using boulders.
Many people have difficulty with aboveground pool landscaping. Since our first garden makeover involved planting garden shrubs around an aboveground pool, I have inserted an image to the right.
My First Makeover Page shows additional images. As well, there is a slide presentation at the bottom of that page that shows many more images of that first makeover and of the aboveground pool and the aboveground pool landscaping.
We planted tall cedar shrubs all around the back of the pool. Then in front of the cedars and wrapping the sides we planted Mugo Pines, Ninebarks, Dogwoods, Butterfly Bush, Dwarf Blue Spruce and a variety of Lilies (blooming at different times).
The landscaping trees we planted were a Lodgepole Pine anchored one end and a Siberian Larch the other end. The front of the pool, which was on the same ground level as the house, was part cedar deck and cement patio pavers.
Other garden shrubs to plant (can be prunned to required height) for aboveground pool landscaping:
I would suggest adding:
Dwarf Arctic Willow
Hydrangeas
False Cypress
Purple Fountain Grass
Veronica Speedwell
The above suggestions are just a few to the selection of garden shrubs for landscaping an above ground pool. Read the tags for exposures, height, pruning ect. to your location.
In the image below, you can see the tips of the tall Brandon cedars we planted at the back of the aboveground pool. In front of the cedars we planted the Butterfly Bush, hardy Lilies, Ninebarks, Dogwoods, ect.

My Garden Shrubs Page has links to all the garden shrubs mentioned above.
