Ageratum Blue Hawaii, the Feathery Floss Flower...
Ageratum Hawaii Blue from my garden. Image taken August 31, 2009About The AgeratumAgeratum Blue Hawaii or Floss Flower has a short growth habit and is a great edging plant for the flower garden. When planting a flower garden, the Floss Flower (Hawaii Blue Series) looks stunning with Dusty Miller as a flower bed edging plant. Almost every year I plant the two garden annuals as a border around my Morden Roses, Korean Lilac and my Flower Carpet Roses. The radiant mid blue feathery flowers (some say brush-like) in contrast with the silver Dusty Miller compliments the taller perennials blooming in the background, like the Liatris Blazing Star. The Floss Flower also comes in a deeper blue and white.(see image of white below) Another great contrast color for the blues would be orange/yellow marigolds, calendulas and red or purple salvias . This garden annual is rarely bothered by pests except for mites which can be controlled by a spray of insecticidal soap and water from your garden hose. Check out my Site Index Page for a list of additional annual flowers and perennial flowers to plant in your garden design. Ageratum General Features:
