Ajuga Bronze Beauty, a stunning deep bronze/purple perennial groundcover fills in the empty spaces in my flowerbed garden. This Bugleweed is one of my favorite perennial groundcovers to use as an edging plant for my perennial garden designs. The purple bronze color stands out in among my Coreopsis Zagreb, Gaillardia and the Dusty Miller.

Even the short blue spike flowers are attractive in the spring. Just snip off the blooms when spent to keep the groundcover looking tidy.

How To Grow The Ajuga

Planted in full sun in my middle garden, this perennial groundcover also enjoys wrapping itself around the base of my Siberian Larch Tree (see the image above taken July 28, 2009). This perennial groundcover has somewhat evergreen leaves and thus they are one of the first to appear in my perennial garden in the spring.

Some gardeners warn that the Bugleweed is just that...a weed that becomes invasive. The Bugleweed that I planted as edgers has traveled a bit quicker, but I still find them tolerable and not too invasive. Besides, I just remove/snip off what I don't want and plant in another flower garden. I like the Bugleweed as it can tolerate either sun or shade.
