The Alternanthera Royal Tapestry, Eye-Catching, Trailing Foliage
About The Alternanthera Royal TapestryWhen I chose the Alternanthera Royal Tapestry as a filler and spiller for my container plantings, I actually thought that the Tapestry was part of the Coleus family. Not so, the Alternanthera is from the Amaranth family and grown mainly for its foliage. Depending on the location (sun or shade) and soil type, the coloring of the Royal Tapestry can range from copper, red, purple or burgundy, however the foliage will be the darkest, deepest color if planted in full sun. How To Grow The Alternanthera Royal TapestryThe Royal Tapestry prefers to be planted in sun, however it will tolerate shade and part shade locations. It has a perfect mounding, trailing habit and works well planted in containers, hanging baskets or even as a groundcover. Fertilize once a month if planted in the flowerbed, twice a month if planted in a container or hanging baskets. A top seller, this annual plant does not require deadheading but can withstand some pinching back to keep it looking bushy.
This low maintenance annual plant grows 16" to 24" tall and spreads 20" to 24" in width and prefers a well drained soil. It is not bothered by pests or for that matter any foliage diseases. All around, this sun-loving annual is eye-catching and deserves to be planted in all garden container planters.
