About The Dwarf Arctic Willow Shrub

The Dwarf Arctic Willow is a great garden specimen shrub with wispy thin leaves. This dwarf garden shrub has perfect texture for aboveground pool landscaping, pond landscaping planting or as a garden specimen shrub.

In my garden design, my Nana shrub is planted up beside the ponds waterfall.

How To Grow The Dwarf Arctic Willow Shrub

As the dwarf shrub grows, the wispy thin leaves will spill over the waterfall and give a good sway and rustle in the wind.

Many gardeners in their garden design use this Willow shrub for hedging as it lends its self to pruning very well. Can also be grouped together or planted in mass for a stunning border if trimmed.

The Dwarf Nana grows 3 feet to 5 feet tall and if allowed to grow its natural shape can be 3 feet wide. This shrub requires plenty of water, so keep it well watered.

As you can see in the above 2010 image, my Arctic Willow has grown since purchasing it in 2009. This poor Arctic Willow was accidently clipped last fall. It basically had to start all over again in the spring of 2010.

With respect to light, it requires full sun but will tolerate part sun. It thrives in poor soil and blooms in early spring. Unfortunately this shrub does not offer any significant fall color, however throughout the growing season, the Willow is noted for its bluish tint to the slender leaves.

Great companion plants: Euonymus Emerald Gold, False Cypress, Barberry Shrub or Spreading Evergreens.

Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
