The Asiatic Lily Butter Pixie, dwarf lily and is great as a border or edging plant...
Butter Pixie Lily Image taken June 2009About The Asiatic Lily Butter PixieThe Asiatic Lily Butter Pixie is a dwarf variety and its lemony color lends itself to mass border plantings. This dwarf variety grows with ease in my flower garden design. Easy to grow, this variety is a bright lemony yellow color on compact sturdy stems. How To Grow The Asiatic Lily Butter PixieThe Butter Pixie blooms late spring to early summer and prefers full sun to part shade. Mine had bloomed by the end of June. A perfect area in my flower garden for my Pixie is the middle island garden where the plants and shrubs receive at least 8 to 10 hours of sun. A great companion plant in my flower garden is the Dwarf Korean Lilac with its purple bud blooms and shiny foliage. Another great companion plant would be the annual Angelonia with its beautiful purple mini orchid flowers. This hardy bulb grows to 12" to 18" tall. If using as a cut flower (and they make great cut flowers), make sure to cut the stem before the flower fully opens. This way the flower will last so much longer in the vase. I find that the dwarf varieties are better suited planted in front of a flowerbed as edging or border plants. If planted in mid flower gardens, make sure to plant at least three lilies to ensure the mass effect. This variety has no fragrance and is easy to please when it come to soil preference. It likes clay, normal or sandy soil. As with all new plants, water well until the plant becomes established. Remember to add organic matter and add a tablespoon of MYKE growth supplement to the soil. Make sure that the bulb touches the supplement. To find out how to plant, divide or when to fertilize, go to My Lilies Page.
