The Easy To Grow Bellflower Acaulis. The Dwarf Variety.
About The BellflowerStarting off a bit slow this spring (2009), this clustered BellFlower surprised me with magnificent clusters of deep purple blooms on short sized, but sturdy stalks. It does flower early summer and if deadheaded, it will bloom again, albeit the stems are less rigid and the clustered flowers are sparse. I grow this purple perennial among my Flower Carpet Roses and Liatris Blazing Star. How To Grow The BellflowerBellflower Acaulis Perennial, a dwarf variety has deep purple clustered flowers re-blooms if deadheaded. While the Acaulis enjoys cool roots and moist soil, it seems to like being planted in my Middle Garden where the sun shines all day. Creeping ever so closer is the Lamium groundcover so perhaps it's the Lamium cooling the roots. Also great for rock gardens, this perennial would match great with Sedum Autumn Joy, Coral Bells Marmalade or the annual Dusty Miller. As well, rabbits do not enjoy this perennial, so plant the Bellflower if rabbits are an issue. Fertilize monthly as you feed the rest of your flowerbed gardens. It has been said that this plant can be a wanderer, but I have yet to see this happen in my garden. It behaves very nicely. Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
