About The Bonanza Daylily

I have come to really appreciate daylilies, such as the Bonanza Daylily. Daylilies are so easy to care for! This re-bloomer is not like the Stella D'Oro in terms of re-blooming in masses, but still offers colour throughout late July.

Daylilies make such great groundcovers, edgers and if you have an issue with a slope or soil erosion, daylilies will solve the issue.

The Bonanza Daylily blends in well with my Stella D'Oro and the Coreopsis Zagreb, which I have planted nearby.

This re-bloomer is a bright yellow to golden in colour and has a center eye of deep maroon. I bet you can imagine how well this golden colour would match with reds and oranges in the garden.

Bred in 1954, the Bonanza has been around for a long time and is very popular with its 5" blooms. The long slender leaves fall perfectly to the ground, thus making it a great groundcover. As with my other daylilies, I always remove the spent bloom along with any yellowing leaves. This helps keep the plant looking tidy.

Growing The Bonanza Daylily

The Bonanza enjoys and prefers a full sun location but will tolerate some light shade. Remember, the more sun, the more blooms. Don't dig in too deep. Plant just to cover the roots. Water generously until established. The Bonanza Daylily, once established, is heat and humidity tolerant.

Another great advantage of daylilies is that they are deer and rabbit resistant, which makes it great for my flower gardens!

Other great companions plants: Catmint, Coreopsis Zagreb, Rudbeckia Goldsturm or Nelia Argyranthemum.

If you are looking for some red companion plants, try looking at my Red Flowering Plants page.
