Coneflower Green With Envy, A Lime Green Wonder
About The Coneflower Green With EnvyReleased in 2011, the Coneflower Green With Envy is the first ever true green coneflower. This non-stop blooming echinacea was developed by a hobbist gardeners and by all accounts, I believe he has a winner! The above and below images are of my Green With Envy Coneflower. True to the garden centre tags, mine has semi fragrant blooms that measure 4" to 5" across. As the blooms open, the lime green colouring shocks the eye. You really don't expect the brilliant colour to last. Then as the bloom ages, the cupped rounded petal tips remain a light lime green, while the rest slowly turns to a pink colouring and finally ending at the deep green to brown center cone. Blooming from summer to fall, this coneflower grows to about 36" in height and will spread 24" wide. The stems are sturdy and once established it becomes deep rooted making it perfect for a windy location and would be best suited if planted in mass. Wow, would this perennial look great planted alongside the Purple Coneflower or the Phlox Red Riding Hood. The blooms seem to last forever, making it great for those indoor flower arrangements. How To Grow The Coneflower Green With EnvyLike all other coneflowers, this perennial is best planted in a hot, sunny location, however it will tolerate some part sun locations. Mine is planted where it receives the afternoon sun. Besides the soil needing to be well-draining, there are no other garden soil conditions to consider, however, I always add a handful of compost and MYKE's . I enjoy watching the butterflies land on the brilliant green to pink coloured blooms and as each season passes, you can bet that I will be adding many more of these perennials to my flowerbed borders. By the way, if you want continuous blooming, remember to deadhead the spent flowers. I can't think of any garden pests that bother this plants so intertwine this perennial either in your cutting garden bed or add to an already established cottage garden. You won't be disappointed.
Great companions plants have been already mentioned above, however others could be: Echinacea Double Pink, Hydrangea Limelight, or the bright green colouring of the Lemon Balm, A great groundcover can be any variety from the Lamium family.
