About The Coral Bells Arctic Mist

The Coral Bells Arctic Mist or Heuchera Arctic Mist, I am happy to report, was created especially for my zone 3 gardening. Well, not mine specifically, but it was developed at Jeffries Nurseries in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba in 2009. Not too many Heucheras survive our northern zone and therefore, we northern gardeners are always thrilled to have a new cultivar to plant.

Since the Heuchera is an evergreen perennial, it does not completely die back in the winter. The compact mounding growth habit has its height at only 12" to 18" tall and that is with the flower scapes. It spreads about the same, 12" to 18".

How To Plant The Coral Bells Arctic Mist

Arctic Mist goes a long way to adding that mottled variegation we gardeners are always looking for. Whether you plant this variety of Coral Bells in sun or part shade, it will perform with bright red flowers on tall scapes in early to mid spring. The rest of the summer, the Coral Bells Arctic Mist will add that special green variation, which is always needed when some blooms are completed.

I have two of these Heuchera's planted among my Sedum Dragons Blood as seen in the image below. This perennial would be a great contrast for the Brunnera or the Oxalis.

Since it has be documented as an easy to grow, easy care perennial, I will also say that it is not fussy about soil type. It requires average moisture and can even deal with a little dryness if needed (once established, of course).
