The Coral Bells Velvet Night, perfect low growing evergreen plant for the perennial border
About The Coral Bells Velvet Night (Heuchera)The evergreen perennial Coral Bells Velvet Night with its a low growing, mounding growth habit is perfect for as an edging plant for any flowerbed garden design. This Heuchera has vibrant slate black color with a purple overlay and is velvety to the touch. How To Grow The Coral Bells Velvet NightRemember that the Heuchera perennials have shallow roots and are susceptible to their roots heaving during the winter, so plant deep. I had this experience with my Coral Bells and re-planted all of my plants in order to avoid the issue repeating itself. On a good note, the clump roots tend to be woody, making them easy to divide when needed. You will notice that when the time comes to dividing, the root sections are very easy to pull apart with your hands. Like all of the Coral Bells, check underneath the leaves as the older leaves have a tendancy to turn brown. Best to remove them, otherwise disease can set in. And besides, removing the browning or dried leaves makes the plant look tidy. Companion plants:Companion plants for shade: Hostas, Ligularia Othello, Astilbe Fanal , Sedum Dragon Blood, Brunnera. Companion plants for part shade: A great contrast, early blooming perennial the Leopards Bane, or the purple blooming Bellflower or Ajuga groundcover.
