The Coreopsis Zagreb with feathery leaves and tiny daisy-like blooms for any flowerbed design
The Coreopsis Zagreb planted alongside Dusty Miller. Image taken September 13.
About The Coreopsis ZagrebThe Coreopsis Zagreb, delicate yellow daisy-like flowers on fine feathery fern-like leaves for any flower garden design. When planting this variety, be aware that this sun perennial is a bit slower to get going in the spring. My other perennials are already half-way to their mature growth as the Zagreb finally pokes its feathery thin leaves out from below the ground. In the past gardens, I have had a difficult time with this perennial over-wintering, but now my Zagreb perennials are more shrub-like than single plants. How To Grow the Coreopsis ZagrebNot fussy about soil type, the Zagreb does however prefer a well-drained soil. This is a mildew resistant perennial and can withstand some drought once established. With feathery, thread-like, airy leaves, the Zagreb makes a great contrast to the Gaillarida. See the above image. The flower, very daisy-like but tiny, is a light yellow color and within 4 weeks of growing can produce hundreds of tiny blooms from June through October. Because the Zagreb forms in a mound shape, it looks great planted in mass. Even though the blooms come and go quickly, I still deadhead the spent blooms to encourage the plant to produce more flowers. I just take my garden scissors and snip off the tips. Great companion plants are: Gaillardia, Sedum Angelina, Ageratum Blue Hawaii or Marigolds. Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
