The Cosmos Seashells has delicate fluted edging and soft pastel colors
About the Cosmos SeashellsThe Cosmos Seashells annual bedding plant with its fluted edges and pastel colors is great for the cottage garden. The image above of the Cosmos Seashells is from my garden taken August 27, 2009. I just managed to take the picture as the bee was inside pollinating. How To Grow The Cosmos SeashellsThis variety of Cosmos has 3" flower petals that are lightly fluted around yellow centers. The bloms almost look doubled becasue of the fluted edges. The Seashell colors are white, pink, rose and carmine. This annual can get pretty tall so staking might be required, especially if they are planted in a windy site. I plant mine in groups so I don't need to stake...they kind of hold each other up. I plant mine in among my Golden Glow Elders and my Cleome as they make a great tall background planting. I am fortunate that my Cosmos intertwined itself with my Golden Elder and my Anzac Daylily (see image below), however because the Seashells variety grows so tall, the stalks tend to bend and curve making it difficult to stake if needed. So my suggestion is to keep an eye on the flowers as they grow and stake them early on. Great companion plants: Purple Coneflower and the Double Pink Echinacea.
