Cosmos Versailles Mix for a cottage garden look...
Image taken from my south garden mid summer About the Cosmos Versailles MixThe Cosmos Versailles Mix works best in the flower garden as a med size to tall background plant. I don't necessarily have what is defined as a cottage garden, however every year I plant the Cosmos. Why? They make the perfect feathery light background flower that mixes so well with my shrubbery. In 2009 I planted the Versailles Mix. The plant tag said 36" to 48", however the Cosmos grew over 5 feet tall. In order to keep them standing up and straight I had to purchase plant supports. Even though they grew taller than expected, this annual still provided the fullness of fern-like foliage, which complimented the Golden Elder and the Dogwood Shrubs. The Cosmos blooms wonderful flowers all summer with 3" blooms and please remember to deadhead the spent blooms. This process has the plant producing new buds all summer long. If you don't like the taller variety, shorter plant varieties are available. Thank goodness the rabbits and deer don't find this plant flavorful or they would be stomping on all of my precious plants to get to them. The rabbits may not like this annual, but the bees love them. Great companion plants: Salvia Victoria Blue and the Cleome Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
