The Dorotheanthus Mezzo Trailing Red or Livingstone Daisy
About The Dorotheanthus Mezzo Trailing RedA native of South Africa, the Dorotheanthus Mezzo Trailing Red is a unique succulent plant with button sized red flowers tucked within the fleshy leaves. The trailing, yet soft mounding green leaves are edged in white and the blooms remain open during cloudy days. This is quite unlike other Livingstone Daisies, which close up on over-cast days. The blooms do not need to be deadheaded.
How To Grow The Dorotheanthus Mezzo Trailing RedNot fussy on soil type, the Mezzo is another succulent that require well drained soil. Drought and heat tolerant once established, this succulent plant should be planted in full sun and not allowed to dry out completely. Fertilizing is recommended only once a month if planted in a container or hanging baskets. As a filler and spiller plant, the Mezzo with ruby red blooms grows to about 6" to 8" tall and spreads or trails to 18" to 20". If you have a concern over aggressive growing spillers plants for your container planting, then the Mezzo is a great choice as it has controlled growth. I have my Mezzo planted along with the Sedum Angelina and the Senecio Blue Chalk. Great companions plants have been already mentioned above, however others could be: Sedum Dragons Blood, Hens and Chicks, Creeping Jenny, Alyssum or the Angelonia. Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
