The Euonymus Emerald Gold shrub provides great contrast in the garden.
The image above of the Euonymus Emerald Gold is from my garden September 17, 2009. I just planted it in 2009 so it is still pretty small. I will post additional images next year.
About The Euonymus Emerald GoldI selected the Euonymus Emerald Gold for its beautiful variegated foliage, of gold, white and green and for its limited trailing habit. My peninsula garden and my back garden already had shrubs of green shades so I thought this variegated shrub with its gold edged leaves would add great contrast and interest. With this shrub being an evergreen and the fact that the foliage turns a pinkish red in the fall, it will also add interest well into the early winter prior to being covered in snow. The spring flowers are a greenish white and are really not that outstanding so plant it for the foliage. Many gardeners plant this shrub on slopes/hills for soil erosion and because it does stay as a compact shrub (even though it trails), it works well in small gardens. The Euonymus would also look great as a pond landscaping shrub. Some great companion plants: Mugo Pine and Spreading Evergreens, False Cypress, Marigolds, Felicia Daisy or the Cutleaf Lace Shrub.
