Evergreen Plants (Perennials) Give Greenery To The Flowerbed Garden All Year...
About Evergreen Plants (Perennials)The above headliner indicating that Evergreen Plants retain their greenery all year round actually depends on where you garden. For instance, in my zone 3, my evergreens are covered in snow for almost 5 months of the year. However, if you garden in a zone 5 or above, well then, you can enjoy your evergreens all year long! How lucky! Evergreen perennials are perennials that don't completely die-back during the winter months. Even in my garden zone, if there isn't enough snow cover, I can see the slender green leaves of the sea thrift. That being said, when spring arrives in my zone 3 garden, I avidly wait for the snow to begin melting and then witnessing the sprigs of green poking through the remaining soft snow. I am always amazed at the speed of which these plants emerge from the cold ground. In no time, the flat laying leaves of the Coral Bells (Heuchera) spring upwards and the new growth on the Rockcress appears. I usually do not cut back my evergreen plants in the fall (unless the leaves are diseased). I wait until the spring. I believe this helps protect the plants should there be little snow cover. Whether to cut back or not would also depend on your gardening zone. Please visit the pages below for complete plant description and care. Come back often as I am sure to up date this page as I continue to plant additional evergreens. Don't forget to tell your friends about this page!
