About The Felicia Daisy

Use the Felicia Daisy, a pretty delicate-looking blue daisy with yellow centers as a container plant, in flowerbeds as an edger plant or in rock gardens. This Daisy...I can't imagine a more blue colored flower. A native of South Africa this plant, also called the Marguerite Daisy, can be semi perennial in some warmer climates but I plant it as an annual.

It is pretty easy to see when the delicate flowers are spent. The petals curl up, whereas when the buds open, the petals are straight up.

Planted beside my Campanula White and Purple Clips, this variegated daisy offers the perfect color and variegated leaf contrast. I planted just one small plant and within 4 weeks the one small plant turned into a petite shrub. Use this annual as an edging, border plant or in a container. Almost everyone who visits my garden comments favorably on this delicate annual. See the image above.

How To Grow The Felicia Daisy

The tiny delicate blooms last for about 4 days, but not to worry, there are plenty of buds just waiting to open. Make sure to deadhead. Snip the long stems off and not just the blooms. This encourages more flowers.

The Felicia Daisy is a fast grower and the leaves are a bit aromatic making it a dislike to deer and rabbits. Thank goodness!

The Felicia does best in full sun or part sun and prefers a sandy, well drained soil. I always add sand to my 5 way garden soil mix and I add at least 2 to 3 inches of this garden soil to every flowerbed, every spring.

This petite daisy would also grow well as an under plant of the Becky Shasta Daisy or even some Rose Shrubs.

Great companion plants: Marigolds, Campanula White and Purple Clips, Coneflower Meringue, Paper Daisy or the Lavender Anouk.

Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
