About The Final Touch Daylily

The Final Touch Daylily with beautiful lavender pink blooms perfect for any garden design. In searching for additional daylilies, but with bigger blooms, I came across this Daylily. In selecting this variety I am stepping away from my usual deeper colors. However, I just couldn't resist this lavender pink daylily. And after seeing the huge 5" blooms, it has now become one of my favorites.

How To Grow The Final Touch Daylily

This daylily boasts a long blooming time from July to September with many buds on one stalk. As an added bonus, the huge flowers are fragrant. Like all other daylilies, this variety prefers a full sun location.

As I watched this daylily open, I noticed that it opens part way one day and then fully the next. I call it my two day, daylily. The image above is from my mounded island garden dated August 27, 2009 and receives full sun all day.

Once the flowers are spent, I do break off the dried blooms (if left, they will eventually fall off on their own) and once the entire stalk has bloomed, I snap off the seed pod. I do leave the entire stalk to dry. Once dried, I cut the stem down.

As the daylily matures in the flowerbed, some leaves may yellow or turn brown at the tips or edges. In order for my plants to look fresh and tidy, I cut off any yellowing leaves.

Many gardeners cut their daylilies to use indoors, but I have never done so. Perhaps its because I do not have an over abundance of plants so I prefer to look at them in the garden (for now).

Besides the bees and butterflies, Hummingbirds have hovered over this plant quite a few times this garden year.

Great companion plants, besides other daylilies: Loosestrife Firecracker, Yellow Loosestrife and the Dusty Miller as a contrast annual plant.

Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
