My Forget-Me-Not, Blue Indigo, a fabulous early springtime bloomer in my flowerbed garden
My Forget-Me-Not, Blue Indigo, with deep blue flowers and rounded mound is fabulous for borders and mass plantings for spring blooming. Where did the name come from? Well...legend has it that a medieval knight and his lady-love were walking beside a river. The knight held a bouquet in his hands. Because of the weight of the armor, he fell into the water. As he was drowning, he threw her the bouquet shouting forget-me-not. Nice. How To Grow The Forget Me NotThere are roughly 50 species within this genus. I chose the Blue Indigo for its tiny but deep blue flowers. Even though this is a spring blooming annual, mine can bloom well into July. Planted in my south flowerbed garden as an edging perennial, the Forget Me Not prefers a part shade to shade location and a moist soil. I really like the mounding growth habit and the size stays compact at 6" to 8" tall. Great companion plants: Hostas, Astilbes, Brunnera or Begonias. Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
