Garden Design Ideas and Landscape Pictures...Check out our First Garden Design Ideas and Landscape Makeover. Great garden ideas found here! The slide presentation above offers an insight to our first garden design makeover. This first adventurous backyard landscape makeover began in 1997 on a decent size sloped lot (50'x 130'). The image below is the completed aboveground pool, interlocking stone patio and aboveground pool shrubs landscaping. (click on the image to enlarge) Over the years, we planted a few tree varieties, spreading evergreen shrubs, winter hardy roses, a small pond with a waterfall and an eight person hot tub secluded in a cedar gazebo. In 2002, we added an aboveground pool built into the slope of the backyard. Ingenious if I do say so myself! Jim's idea of course. We built the aboveground pool retaining wall, laid the stone interlocking patio and planted all of the shrubs and perennials surrounding the aboveground pool. This was truly a great garden design!

Many of the flowers and shrubs in 2008 and 2009 were also planted in this first landscape makeover. More creative ideas...By completion, or so we thought, this masterpiece of settled, fragrant plants included several lush gardens with well over 200 different perennial varieties and annuals. Finished? No way... In the final year of our first garden design makeover, we constructed what I called 'our BBQ hut' complete with built in BBQ, fridge, bar and cedar shake roof. Jim, on the other hand, called it his perfect 'cedar BBQ gazebo', which offered him a place to install his television and watch American Football while lounging (with drink in hand) in the aboveground pool on a floatie or resting on a comfy chair nestled up close to the cedar bar. Nice, eh? Just when you think you've done it all, because either there's no space or money left, and it might be time to enjoy the fruits of your labor, along comes that NASTY gardening and landscaping palm itch. Ahhh...here's where the itch gets scratched, a new gardening season and a new 400ft. backyard... Lucky for us we purchased a larger property in 2007 with an almost clean slate backyard. Now we are once again ready, willing... and I think able to tackle another backyard makeover (it's like giving birth, I already forgot about the pain from the first time around. The countless number of wheelbarrows I lugged filled with soil, gravel, river rock, stones and boulders...oh, my aching back).
