The Gartenmeister Fuchsia, Stunning Shade or Sun Annual...
About The Gartenmeister FuchsiaIn German, Gartenmeister Fuchsia means caregiver or head of the garden. This annual certainly lives up to it's name. Whether it's grown in shade or full sun, this annual fuchsia provides gorgeous, long and thin, red colored flowers that bloom all summer long. The burgundy foliage is an added bonus. I have heard that in some areas this annual likes to take a break and blooms slower in the summer heat. The two that I purchased this spring are planted in containers and only receive late afternoon to evening sun. They never stop blooming or growing additional buds. How To Grow The Gartenmeister FuchsiaBecause this annual fuchsia is an upright plant, it can actually be planted right into the ground. The Gartenmeister can grow anywhere from 1 to 3 feet tall. This is a consideration that I may do for next season. Mine are planted in containers along with Begonias, lime coloured Sweet Potato Vines and Purple Lobelia. This annual enjoys a moist, yet well drained soil. Do not let it sit in wet, soggy soil, nor let it dry out. Besides planting in the ground, the Gartenmeister can be planted in containers, patio pots or window boxes. Watch for the hummingbirds. They just love the tubular shaped blooms! Other great companions: various Hostas or various varieties of Coleus. Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
