My Gazania Annual Flower Has Vibrant Earth Tone Blooms

Gazania

About the Gazania Daybreak

The Gazania annual bedding plant with vibrant blooms and silver bottom leaves makes a great border plant for any flowerbed garden. I often wonder why I almost walk past and not include this annual plant in my purchase of annual garden plants.

I find them to be easy to grow, drought tolerant and offer such vibrant earth tone colors. Their faces remind me of a stout Black-eyed Susan annual.

How To Grow the Gazania Daybreak

Alas, I do stop and I do purchase at least 4 of the 6 cell packs. My favorites are from the Daybreak series; the Bronzes, oranges and yellows. There is also a trailing series, but I have not planted them as of yet.

I know that some of my fellow gardeners do not choose this annual because of their closing up habit when the weather becomes dull or cloudy. This is true, but the Daybreak series do not close up as tight.

Watch out! These plants are gobbled up by deer and rabbits unless you have them protected, see My Critters Page for solutions.

Sunshine Mix: 5 colors: red, pink, yellow, cream, orange. (see the image below)

Daybreak: 7 rich colors: Red Stripes on yellow petals, Garden Sun, Bright Yellow Improved, Bright Orange, Bronze, White and Pink.(see the image above)

Great companion plants: Calendulas, Lantana, Bidens, Marigolds or the perennial Coreopsis Zagreb.
