The Herman's Pride makes a great groundcover perennial
About The Herman's Pride Dead Nettle
While some gardeners do not like the Hermans Pride (I too have relegated a few to the very back of my garden), I still like and use the perennial as a groundcover for around my roses.
The unfortunate thing about the Herman's Pride is that it spreads very quickly and once rooted into the flowerbed, is difficult to get rid of. Another negative is that the leaves can brown and wither towards the end of the season.
One year I had an infestation of tiny black flea beetles on my Herman's Pride, thus I needed to strip the garden of the plants
If they get too unruly, I clip them or they get banished to the back of my yard. I appreciate that they form a compact bushiness and produce a mass of wonderful bright yellow flowers. The leaves are jagged edged and etched with silver.
Great companion plants: Shasta Daisy Becky, Purple and White Coneflower,
Liatris Blazing Star or the Lavender Anouk.
