My Impatiens...an overflow of color...

Red Impatiens in a Strawberry Planter

Impatiens...Super Elfin

About The Impatiens Bedding Plant

The Ever Blooming Impatiens annual bedding plant offers bright colors of red, pink, coral and brilliant white for every shade flowerbed garden.

At one time I was much like other seasoned gardeners in not wanting to plant any more...such a common plant...right? Well yes, it is. But it does have its place in many gardens, including mine.

I plant them in baskets, as well as in the ground. Try planing them in mass for a striking appearance! I actually have a friend that plants them in larger pots and places the pots tiered underneath her rather large elm tree. She prefers all colours and uses white, pink and red in her selection. The look is amazing and as the summer progresses, the plants fill in to create a sea of bright colours.

How To Grow The Impatiens

My Strawberry Pot cries out for the Impatiens and I oblige by planting the Super Elfin Series in red. This works great for me as I then position the Pot under my evergreen tree and...viola instant color!

Impatiens do like shade and maybe, just maybe a little bit of morning sun. These annuals will wilt and not spread if planted in a hot sun location. No need to deadhead...the spent blooms seem to fall off or simply disappear on their own. Just remember not to fertilize as these annual plants will give you more foliage and less flowers. The type of soil doesn't seem to matter either. Preferably well drained as they won't do well if saturated in water.

Look at the new cultivar: Yellow...see image below. Amazing isn't it?

Great companion plants: Fuchsia, New Guinea Impatiens, Begonias or the Coleus.
