From the Explorer Series the JP Connel Rose offers Creamy White Double Blooms...
Image taken from my garden on July 8, 2009.
About The JP Connel RoseFrom the Explorer Series comes the JP Connel Rose with multiple rich creamy white double blooms. When purchasing this shrub rose late in the season last year (2008), I had no idea that it would still perform so well so late in the season. Bud after bud arrived until the first hard frost put an end to the blooming. Watching the flower buds open from a lemon yellow and slowly turning to a butter-cream white with light yellow centers had me wondering why I had not considered this shrub rose earlier. When passing by, the double blooms scented the pathway with a lingering sweet fragrance. And to think these magnificent flowers bloom repeatedly on thornless stems. I have read that the blooms can be sparse in the first year or two but my JP Connel shrub bloomed great last year and this year it looks even better! Be forewarned that the JP Connel does take a rest between blooming periods. While this shrub rose has good disease resistance, the sawfly larvae, those pesky wee tiny worms do eat up the leaves. Pay attention and check the leaf undersides. The sawfly can be easy to miss, but they do grow larger as they munch. I normally rub them off with my fingers, but spraying insecticidal soap works. Check my Roses for planting and pruning instructions. Great companion plants: David Phlox, Rubymine Phlox or Dusty Miller.
