The colorful Lava Rose Coleus Trailing
About The Lava Rose ColeusWith deep shades of red and purple, the trailing Lava Rose Coleus annual bedding plant makes a colorful annual for shade containers. This annual plant is a low growing, mounding and trailing annual plant that makes an ideal groundcover planted in shade. This coloeus can be planted in full sun, but I find that it does not perform as well as if planted in a part shade to shade location. How To Grow the Lava Rose ColeusBesides using it as a groundcover, this coleus is great as a trailing plant in shade located containers or baskets. If planted as a groundcover it can spread up to 2 feet. If planted in containers, the Coleus grows into a dense and sturdy plant, making it an excellent companion to Begonias or Impatiens. Don't forget to include this annual in window boxes and hanging baskets. I plant mine in standing metal baskets loaded with Red Impatiens and Fuchsia. Unfortunately, the tips of a few of mine were frozen during the late frost this year (2009) and had to be cut down. Not fussy about soil types, but does prefer a well drained soil. Fertilize the plants every two weeks. Companion plants: Euphorbia, Magilla Purple Perilla or the New Guinea Impatiens.
