About The Lavender Anouk

The Lavender Anouk grows compact, has very fragrant leaves and blooms in its first year. In zones 6 and up this fragrant plant grows as a perennial. In my zone 3 I treat this Lavender as a tender perennial...it may or may not return in the spring.

After reading all about this French Lavender Anouk, I knew it would be destined to grow in my garden...perennial...or annual.

The number of hummingbirds and butterflies that are drawn to this perennial is unbelievable. Hopefully in the near future I will have my camera close by.

Even though the blooms last for a very long time, remember to deadhead to keep the blooms coming.

How To Grow the Lavender Anouk

Having first hand knowledge, I am able to say that the evergreen leaves and blooms on this Lavender are more aromatic than most Lavenders, so I will treat it royally in the fall for winter protection and hope for the best.

Besides me sniffing around the dark purple flower heads, butterflies and bees enjoy the fragrant blooms as well. A compact plant, the pencil thin stems with grey leaves, grow upright and outward branching. These stems can be pinched out and new blooms will occur on the same stem. The plant can also be sheared 50% and another flush flowers will occur (after a short rest).

I will not be shearing my Lavender. The growing period in my zone 3 is quite short from late May to the end of September. I think that shearing is better suited for a warmer climate where frost doesn't arrive in September!

My Anouk grows in my Middle Garden where the sun shines all day long. The well-drained, loamy soil along with the addition of MYKE's growth supplement makes a great recipe for healthy plants.

Great companion plants: Variety of Roses , Flower Carpet Roses, Lemon Balm, Double Pink Coneflower or the Felicia Daisy as a groundcover for around the base.

Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
