The Little Joe Pye Weed blooms purple-red flowers and butterflies love it!
About The Baby JoeNot too many gardeners plant the Little Joe Pye Weed or Baby Joe as it is sometimes called. Maybe they think too much about the mother plant, which can grow pretty tall and take over the garden (mine has not). I like this variety because of its compact size, and it blooms beautifully with lavender flowers in late July. Butterflies and bees enjoy the blooms and even dragonflies have rested on the clutered flowers. The Baby Joe makes a great middle shrub for any flowerbed garden. This species can also tolerate part shade making it great for my south garden, which receives only morning sun. Other companion plants: the Golden Elder, Dogwood or the Ninebark. Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
