About The Loosestrife Yellow

The Loosestrife Yellow is perfect planted in butterfly gardens in full sun and perfect planted in low lying wet marsh areas. Bees also love the long-lasting vibrant yellow blooms on sturdy mid size stems.

Folklore says that when this perennial is burnt, it gives off a strong fume that apparently drives off snakes and kills flies. I wonder if it works for mosquitoes?

How To Grow The Loosestrife Yellow

This perennial grows mostly in marsh or along roadside ditches so it's no wonder that my plants are growing so well. The soil remains moist in the area where they are planted and the sun shines on this flower bed only in the morning.

The blooms rise on erect branches in clusters and bloom from June until September. Even when the flowers have fallen from the stems, this perennial remains attractive.

They say this plant is deer resistant and so far I have not seen them munch on my plants.

Just a side note: this plant is not related to the invasive Purple variety, but rather to the Primrose family.

However, it does spread via underground rhizomes and can spread quickly. To keep control, divide after blooming.

Great companion plants: Victoria Blue Salvia, Dusty Miller, Golden Rod .

Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
