Another great Coleus for the garden. The Magilla Purple Perilla

About The Magilla Purple Perilla
The Magilla Purple Perilla. Another great Coleus-like annual bedding plant for the shade flowerbed garden design. This annual plant is a striking featuring showy coleus-like foliage. The vibrant pink center accents the deep purple foliage and shows extrememly well against the Red Impatiens
or the Begonia Vodka of the Cocktail Series.
How to Grow the Magilla Purple Perilla
I once planted the Perilla in my standing basket and the tips froze due to a late June frost. The plants did slowly come back, but they never really grew to their full potential.
The plant tag says that it is both heat and cold tolerant but I know that it cannot handle even the slightest touch of frost even though I covered the entire basket.
This annual really doesn't require any type of special care other than fertilizing every third watering if planted in containers or baskets. If the plants do get too tall, just cut them back and they will grow back bushier.
In the image below you can see the Perilla in the background.
