The Morden Blush Rose, with delicate pinkish white blooms...

Morden Blush Rose

The Morden Blush from my garden July 8, 2009

About The Morden Blush Rose

The Morden Blush Rose is another shrub rose hailing from the Parkland Series and the Morden Research Station in Morden, Manitoba Canada.

Cold hardy for my zone 3 climate, this shrub rose performs year after year with an abundance of beautiful blooms. I have never not had a Morden Blush Shrub rose in my garden.

The blooms open to a creamy white coloring and slowly turn to a light pinkish white. Truly a blush colouring.

This low growing, ever blooming shrub rose tolerates high temperatures and blooms continuously from June until frost with up to five flowers per cluster. At times the canes can actually bend when the flowers all open at once! The double, softly scented ivory flowers open with a blush center which gradually fades to a soft ivory-pink.

The dark green leaves have good resistance to both powdery mildew and blackspot. However, like all rose shrubs, keep a watch out for the tiny rose worm. They hide on the underside of the leaves and slowly eat away the leaves to a skeleton. To rid the leaves from these tiny worms, I rub my hands along the backside of the rose leaves. They obviously grow larger and become more visible as they munch on the leaves. Another eco friendly way to rid the shrub of the tiny worm is to give a shrub a blast of water from the garden hose.

If aphids are an issue, and they can be on the new buds, spray on an insecticidal soap, which can be purchased at any garden center.

Remember to deadhead the spent blooms, at least until September depending on your climate. Stop deadheading at that time and allow the rose shrub to re-generate for the next year by forming the rose hips.

Once established, this shrub rose withstand heat and some drought conditions. However, I form a shallow well (circle) around my shrub roses for watering and always make sure that I fertilizer with Myke's Rose Fertilizer.

My Blush grows to about 2-3ft tall and 4 ft high and about 3 feet across.
