The New Guinea Impatiens for containers or hanging baskets
About The New Guinea ImpatiensThe New Guinea Impatiens annual bedding plant has vibrant colors and huge blooms. Great for planters and containers. Did you know that the New Guinea Impatiens come in all colors except blue and yellow? Did you know that they actually do originate from New Guinea? How To Grow the New Guinea ImpatiensWhile this anual can be planted in flowerbed gardens as a border plant, I tend to plant them in containers in a filtered shade location. Since these containers sit in filtered shade they are perfect to also hold the Impatiens and Fuchsias . For some reason I seem to stick with the color red or sometimes the bright orange. The stronger colors look better against the Coleus plants in the containers...and you can see the bright reds and oranges from a distance. Most gardeners know that regular Impatiens should not be fertilized, however this is not the case with the New Guinea. This annual can also be taken indoors once the cold weather arrives. I always suggest re-potting the plant in fresh, sterilized soil and then covering the plant with a platic bag for a few hours. This will help capture any 'bugs' that might be lingering on the blooms or leaves. Please visit my Site Index Page for additional annuals and perennials for your next flowerbed garden designs.
