The Phlox David, an exceptional garden phlox...
The Phlox David from my garden July 8, 2009About the Phlox DavidThe Phlox David, grows tall, is mildew resisitant, is fragrant and blooms soft white. An exceptional garden phlox that grows in my middle flowerbed garden. Selected as the Perennial Plant of the Year for 2002, this perennial has quickly become one of my favorite perennials. The showy hydrangea-like white blossom blooms throughout the summer and if the spent blooms are deadheaded, a second blooming will occur. How To Grow The Phlox DavidThis perennial can grow to 4 feet tall so staking may be required, however I find that the stems are very sturdy and so far mine have not needed a support. This is a mildew resistant variety but when planting leave enough room for air circulation around the plant. While it is not bothered by too many garden pests, it can be bothered by the leaf miner so discard the leaves that are affected. Do not put the affected leaves in the compost pile. This perennial makes a great cut flower and is fragrant. Great companion plants: Victoria Blue Salvia, Dusty Miller, Felicia Daisy, Phlox Rubymine.
