About the Phlox Rubymine

The Phlox Rubymine has red-pink blooms on top of wonderful variegated leaves. No flowerbed garden is complete without this mid summer bloomer. This perennial caught my eye in the garden centre with its beautiful variegated leaf feature.

The upright, bushy perennial leaves are a variegated creamy white with hints of red. The blooms radiate a red-pink with a dark pink eye center.

How To Grow The Phlox Rubymine

When looking for another perennial phlox, I was also looking for a plant with variegated leaves. I chose this perennial for its leaf coloration and the fact that it is somewhat mildew resistant, however, like other phlox varieties, this one should be planted with lots of room for air movement.

Even in its first year this perennial blooms beautifully and if deadheaded, the blooming time extends.

Great news for us clay soil gardeners. This perennial does well in almost all soil types as long as you amend with organic matter and water moderately.

Great companion plants: Victoria Blue Salvia, Dusty Miller, Dwarf Korean Lilac Shrub, or the white blooming Phlox David.

Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
