Annual and Perennial Plants for Sun Flowerbed Gardens...

Easy growing annuals and perennials for sunny gardens or part sun gardens...

Besides basic garden design questions, the two most often questions I'm asked concern what kind of plants grow in sun and then what plants grow in shade. I have seen many a south facing flowerbed where impatiens are planted in full hot sun and unfortunately are fried to a crisp!
On this page, sun loving plants and the ones that can tolerate some shade will get the chance to advertise themselves... the shade plants are discussed on my Shade Plants page.
Between 2008, 2009 and 2010 I planted all of the sun loving annuals and perennials below. A few hours of part sun will not deter these plants from giving you great blooms providing you have amended the soil, watered regularly (even though some are drought tolerant) and fertilized regularly especially if they are planted in any kind of containers. Also, all of the plants listed below are easy to grow annuals and perennials and easy to maintain. And remember to deadhead. This really does encourage your plants to bloom throughout the season and not go to seed. Too much of the plants energy goes into seed production so unless you are propagating, get rid of the spent blooms. Each flower page will indicate whether the plant requires a special method of deadheading.
