The Potunia, a great new colorful spin on the ever popular Petunia...
Image taken July 25, 2009. This annual makes a great pond accent plant. About The PotuniaTry planting the Potunia, a great new spin on the ever popular Petunia. Potunia holds its color and shape even after the rain. This annual bedding plant reminds me of the old time favorite Petunia. I just happened to come across this delightful annual at one of my favorite garden centres. My eyes caught a wonderful red mound of flowers in a pot that looked so similar to the Petunia, but yet I had never seen a Petunia mound in such a perfect fashion. Every flower had its place! It was love at first sight...and I am not a true lover of the older varieties of Petunias. This annual is so different. The growth habit is upright and mounding rather than horizontal or trailing. This annual plant does not get leggy. It flowers profusely and even after heavy rains the blooms are not flatten and pop right back up again! How To Grow The PotuniaIt enjoys the hot sun and could be classified as drought tolerant once established. The Potunia comes in nine varieties (colors) with 3 mini varieties. A must for all flower gardens! Although I suggest to deadhead the spent blooms, you really don't have to as the new blooms seem to cover up the spent ones. I do it so I am assured that the blooms will keep coming. Water well until established and then periodically. Fertilize once a month. The image below shows companion plants such as the Cut Lace Shrub and the Marigolds. All of the above mentioned are planted at my ponds edge. Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
