The Purple Pavement Rose...a great hardy and fragrant shrub rose addition
About The Purple Pavement RoseThe Purple Pavement Rose is another end of gardening season purchase. As with the Foxi Pavement Rose, the end of the season blooms were just beautiful! As I was trimming back some of my other plants close by, I was amazed at the strong fragrance of this shrub rose. This rose is yery showy, with clusters of purplish-red, semi-double, fragrant flowers with yellow hearts and dark red rosehips in fall. I leave the rose hips until the snow starts to fall. I find them most attractive! With a low growing habit this shrub rose is great for borders and low hedges. Pavement roses are tough as well as beautiful. They are tolerant of extremes in temperature and will do well in full sun or partial shade. Also highly salt tolerant, ergo why many people plant this shrub rose along walkways and driveways where salt is used in the winter as an ice melt. Great companion plants are: Foxi Pavement Rose, Double Pink Coneflower, Purple Coneflower and the Shasta Daisy Becky. For an front edger annual plant, why not try planting the Dusty Miller, the Felicia Daisy or the Ageratum Blue Hawaii. Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
