About The Rockcress

Plant Rockcress for spring blooming flowers, variegated leaves and a clump forming evergreen groundcover. Arabis Variegated is also another name for this sun or shade perennial plant.

Evergreen plants, which do not completely die-back in the winter, are a natural to grow as an edging plant for flowerbeds. For me, the Arabis Variegated, used as an border perennial plant, will cascade over the sides of my limestone edged flowerbed.

The Rockcress is a fragrant perennial, but in the years that I have planted the Arabis evergreen perennial I've never noticed a fragrance from the spring blooms.

How To Grow The Rockcress

This evergreen is great planted in either sun or part shade. Add organic matter when planting and make sure that the soil drains well. Attracting butterflies, this variegated plant suits being planted in rock gardens, rock walls, alpine gardens and in containers. I have mine planted in my middle garden where it receives full sun all day.

The Arabis blooms early June and deadheading does not encourage a second or extended bloom time.

One important tip to remember: Remember to trim off any green shoots that arise. If you don't, the green shoots will take over and the the plant will no longer be variegated, which is why you purchased it in the first place!

Great companion plants: Felicia Daisy, White and Blue Clips, or the white blooming Sedum Kamschatka .
