The Rudbeckia Goldsturm looks a small version of a sunflower.

About The Rudbeckia Goldsturm

The Rudbeckia Goldsturm, a long blooming, disease resisitant and drought tolerant perennial that looks a small version of a sunflow.

Did you know that Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm' translates to English (from German) as "gold storm"?

The Goldsturm variety is actually supposed to be compact but mine, growing in my mounded Island Garden, has grown quite tall at almost 36".

How To Grow The Rudbeckia Goldsturm

The image below shows the coloring yellow with a conical-shaped deep black core, but this perennial also blooms in orange. I find that the leaves are pretty big for such a delicate looking flower and they have a rough surface to the touch.

This perennial grows extremely well in areas of drought and hot sun and one plant can survive up to 10 years before needing to be replaced. Obviously this plant does require some watering and another bonus...it is also disease and pest resistant.

After having said this, I did have a small issue of black spot on a couple of leaves. I simply sniped off the leaves and sprayed a touch of fungicide on the others as prevention.

The flowers bloom for a very long time and when finished, you can either snip off the stems at the base of the plant to encourage additional blooming or leave as is and enjoy the black cones. It's an individual choice.

Great companion plants: Ribbon Grass as can be seen in the image below, Firecracker Plant, Ninebark Shrub or the Nelia Argyranthemum. This sun loving perennial would suit planted at a ponds edge as well as a perennial flower garden.
