Russian Sage, an airy shrub-like perennial that is fragrant and blooms all summer...
About Russian SageRussian Sage is an airy shrub-like specimen perennial with fragrant leaves and lavender blue flowers. This sun loving perennial is the perfect perennial to fill an open, very sunny and hot spot on top of our back berm. I wanted more of a specimen plant and one that would give color as well. This Sage works. While tagged as a perennial, it grows to 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide. The gray green leaves are fragrant (smells like sage when crushed) and the lavender-blue flowers bloom all summer into the fall. How To Grow The Russian SageThis is a perennial that really doesn't care about soil quality and is fairly drought tolerant. I have mine planted in an area where the plant must depend on the rain for its moisture unless I use the watering can. Don't cut this plant back in the fall. Wait for the spring when you see the new leaves emerge. It is slow to get going in the spring so be patient. What could be better...it is also deer and rabbit proof! Great companions plants: Catmint, Coreopsis Zagreb, Rudbeckia Goldsturm or Nelia Argyranthemum.
