The Salvia Eveline, a good choice for an early bloomer

The above image was taken from my garden on June 16, 2010. This is the second year for the early blooming perennial.
About The Salvia Eveline
Hailing from the Netherlands, this most recent cultivar, the Salvia Eveline or Meadow Sage grows mounded and bushy with many sturdy upright aromatic spikes of pink flowers. With a typical sage fragrance the leaves look to me like the herb basil.
How To Grow The Salvia Eveline
It is best to grow this Salvia in full sun and give good air movement space for best performance, but it will tolerate a part sun location. Just make sure that the soil is well drained. Mine is planted in my back garden and is given plenty of room to grow.
I like this perennial because it blooms sooner than my other perennials thus offering some color early in the summer. Cut back the stems to generate additional blooming. The stems can get a bit floppy so be prepared to give it some support if needed.
Because it has strong aromatic leaves, the deer and rabbits dislike it and it doesn't seem to be bothered by other pests.
Some great companion plants: Purple Coneflower, Salvia Victoria Blue, Russian Sage, Pink Coneflower or the Geranium Rozanne.
