The Sedum Autumn Joy. Great Fall Color and a Great Texture Plant for the Garden...

Sedum Autumn Joy

The above image of the Sedum Autumn Joy is from my garden taken September 13, 2009. Can you see the honey bee?

About The Sedum Autumn Joy

Sedum Autumn Joy gives outstanding performance, great fall color and great plant texture for the garden design. I bet that most gardeners have this succulent in their garden. My grandson Sebastian calls this the 'broccoli' plant.

Bumble bees swarm to land on this perennial in late August as the color slowly turns from green to red and the buds burst open to bloom.

How To Grow The Sedum Autumn Joy

In deciding where to plant the Autumn Joy, I knew I wanted and needed more fall color in my pond landscaping. Ergo, the Sedums were relegated to the pond's edge beside the Barberry Rose Glow, the big pine tree and the annual yellow mum plant that returned to grow (huge) again.

The spot gives ample sun and the way the larger stones are positioned in front of them, should the these succulent perennials ever get floppy, the stones can be supportive.

I enjoy this Sedum as much in the summer as I do in the fall...it adds so much texture interest to the garden. Of course in the fall, the color is amazing!

Great companion plants: Potunia, Portulaca, Sedum Dragon Blood, Sedum Angelina, Speedwell Veronica or the Verbena Aztec Dark Red.

Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
