The Speedwell Veronica, beautiful blue spikes make it another great groundcover.
Image taken from my garden July 19, 2009About The Speedwell VeronicaTake a look at the Speedwell Veronica. The blue spikes in a shrub formation is stunning and very long lasting. Imagine beautiful blue spikes rising from a low growing spreading perennial. How To Grow The Speedwell VeronicaI plant the Speedwell as taller form of a groundcover at my ponds edge. Great companions are the Potunia annual plant, the Marigold Durango annual plant or the Cutleaf Lace Shrub. This perennial is easy to grow, drought tolerant and will re-bloom if deadheaded. I do deadhead mine but the second set of blooms is not as flush as the first. The re-blooms are not as tall as the first set of flowers. Also, it does take a while (at least 2 weeks) before it re-blooms. It creeps and spreads fairly quickly to two feet wide or more to form a dense, compact mat. Try planting in mass for a stunning effect. This perennial is also well suited for rock gardens. Other great companions: Salvia Victoria Blue, Scabiosa or the Dusty Miller. Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design. Speedwell Veronica Features
