The Summer Wine Daylily offers a amazing huges blooms and deep wine color...
About The Summer Wine DaylilyThe Summer Wine Daylily offers amazing huge ruffled blooms and the deepest wine color with a yellow to orange color throat. Some define the purple coloring more like that of the Fuchsia plant, almost a red/purple. It has single ruffled petals and are quite large at 4" to 5" across. Pests rarely bother this plant and the care is like any other daylily. As the slender leaves begin to brown, I cut them off as well as removing the spent blooms. This helps keep the plant looking tidy. Even if only the tips brown, I snip off the browing with my garden scissors. To learn more about the care, please visit: My Daylilies Page. How To Grow The Summer Wine DaylilyI have my plants growing in my middle mounded garden, in well drained soil and in close proximity to my ribbon grass. Here the sun shines all day and the other companion plants close by are: Ribbon Grass, Purple D' Oro (the sister to Stella) and the Loosestrife Firecracker . This daylily usually starts blooming in my garden by the end of June and blooms right through to mid August. The image above is from my garden taken July, 2009. Isn't the color and size of flower amazing? Even though each bloom lasts only for a day, there are several buds on each plant so the blooms are happening each day for quite some time. Also, this daylily rests for a while (2 to 3 weeks) and then begins all over again.
