The Veronica Repens a great evergreen groundcover that pops with tiny white flowers...
About The Veronica RepensThe Veronica Repens or Creeping Speedwell makes a great evergreen groundcover or planted in rock gardens. This plant pops with tiny white flowers. This Speedwell moves ever so slowly beneath my JP Connel Rose and my David Phlox. Even though it is classified as a 'creeper', for me, this perennial does so at a snails pace. I planted mine last year in my middle garden where the sun shine all day. And although it is doing very well, it has not spread as quickly as I had hoped. Nor did it flower for very long in the spring (2009). I am sure that as this plant becomes more established, the flowers will come. I do, however, like the stable green color it holds even after the flowers have faded. The Creeping Speedwell is an evergreen perennial and forms a groundcover mass of tiny white flowers in late spring to early summer. I am hoping to see this creeper grow in between my limestone and gradually spill over the sides. How To Grow The Veronica RepensSome say that this plant is invasive, however I have not seen this happening in this garden or my past gardens. While it prefers sun to partial shade, it does not like to dry out completely so I make sure to water regularly. If this evergreen does dry out, the foliage slowly turns brown and dies off. The Creeping Speedwell perennial would do well planted in among spring blooming bulbs as well as underneath Becky Shasta Daisy, Dwarf Korean Lilac and other Shrub Roses.
