The Wave Petunia, great for container planting and as a groundcover
About the Hybrid Wave PetuniaThe best glorious abundance blooms come from the Wave Petunia. Great for container or hanging planters. I planted the Lavender in my wine barrel containers, which sit on our new beach area. The image on the right was taken July 28, 2009.A rapid grower in a trailing fashion, this wave petunia trails down the sides of the barrel and contrasts well with the Sweet Potato Vine. How To Grow The Hybrid Wave PetuniaWhile it does spread quickly and it does bloom from early spring to frost, it does need to be deadheaded (snip off the entrie spent bloom including the seed pod) on a regular basis in order for the seed pods not to form, dry and bust open. I find that this annual bedding plant does become leggy if not planted in full sun. The ones planted in my barrels only receive part sun. Big mistake. Instead of lush trailing blooms, the trailing stems are thin and leggy even though I deadhead on a regular basis. Remember to fertilize at least every fourth watering. Also in my barrels are the tall Brandon Cedars, which require a lot of water. Great companion planting: Ageratum Blue Hawaii, Dusty Miller, Alyssum, Scaevola or the Nemesia. Check out my Site Index Page for a listing of additional annuals and perennials to plant in your flower garden design.
