If you're in the Zone...that is 'Zone 5'...try the White Flower Carpet Rose for fragrance and blooms...
About the White Flower Carpet Rose
What can I say about this beauty except that I want to grow masses of these in my Zone 3. I am a 'garden risk taker' and I will plant one this year. Wish me luck.
This groundcover rose is one that blooms the earliest in the spring. It does have a slight, pleasant fragrance. The bloom color white actually stays white even after it rains.
How To Grow The White Flower Carpet Rose
It grows to less than 2 feet (60cm) and can spread 4 to 6 feet (1.2-1.8m).
Like the other eight in the series, it is disease resistant, resistant to black spot and powdery mildew. However, like any other roses, if the season is unusally wet, you will have to watch for signs of black spot and treat accordingly.
No fancy pruning or deadheading required. I still prune my carpet roses as they still grow too large for me. You can cut it back 1/3 in fall or spring if you like, but it is not necessary.
In the image below, this series makes a great show in mass. I bet this groundcover would look great in a container as well.

Care for Flower Carpet Roses
- water regularly until established
- feed only in spring. Fall feeding produces more foliage and makes it harder for the plant to survive the cold.
- add organic matter
- makes sure the drainage is good. The plant will rot if it sits in water.
- plant in full sun for the most blooms. It will tolerate some shade but you might get less blooms.
- If you are trying to grow this type of Carpet Rose in a Zone lower than Zone 5, you must protect the plant for the winter. The Flower Carpet Rose is recommended for Zone 5. In a Zone 5 a covering of leaves is sufficient.
Great companion plants: Dusty Miller, Dwarf Korean Lilac, Barberry Shrub or Spreading Evergreens.
